Despite sitting at 5-3 with all three losses coming in relatively embarrassing fashion, the Florida Gators remain in the hunt for a College Football Playoff berth if the organization’s initial top 25 release is to be believed. The Gators found themselves in the field Tuesday night as one of 10 SEC teams selected to represent the best teams in the nation.
Florida opens at No. 24 in the College Football Playoff Rankings with its three losses coming to No. 2 Georgia, No. 18 Missouri and No. 21 South Carolina. Helping the Gators’ resume are victories over No. 7 Texas and No. 10 Ole Miss, both of which feature two of the most talented rosters and quarterbacks in the country.
UF was previously placed at No. 25 in the AP Top 25 on Sunday; it was not ranked in the Coaches Poll, receiving the 27th-most points in that voting process.
With four games left in the regular season, Florida is only to set to face one currently ranked opponent, though that will be a road game at No. 6 Kentucky in two weeks. The Wildcats lost by 28 to No. 5 Alabama in Week 2 but have wins over South Carolina and No. 14 LSU, both in overtime. UF is the second of three straight ranked opponents UK will play to close out its season.
