The swings of momentum have been wild this season for the No. 17 Florida Gators, which sandwiched two embarrassing losses between impressive victories over top 10 teams. Enter the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs, which were on the wrong side of this for a quarter century before turning the tide and winning eight of the last nine editions of the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.

The Gators have lost five straight in the series, four of those games by 13+ points. They have not beaten the Dawgs without either being a top 10 team or entering as the higher-ranked team since 2014.

UF will certainly have its work cut out on Saturday when the Cocktail Party is contested in Atlanta for the first time in history. The Florida-Georgia game is being held outside of Jacksonville, Florida, for the first time since 1995 and the first time at a different neutral site since 1930. (The Gators will receive a similar closer-to-campus advantage next year when the game is held in Tampa before returning to Jacksonville in 2028.)

Head coach Jon Sumrall is aiming to become the first Florida boss to beat three top 10 opponents in the same season. If he succeeds, the Gators will have legitimate College Football Playoff potential. On the other side, head coach Kirby Smart is aiming for a major rebound after the Dawgs skated by at Alabama and shockingly lost at home to Auburn before entering the off week. While Georgia can likely afford one more loss, its goal is a top-four seed as one of the favorites to win the national championship.

What will go down Saturday afternoon? Let’s take a closer look with this game day preview.

Florida vs. Georgia: Tale of the tape

No. 17 Florida Gators No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs
Head coach Jon Sumrall Kirby Smart
Record 5-2 (3-2) 6-1 (4-1)
Conference SEC SEC

Injuries & absences

Probable (2): QB Aaron Philo (shoulder), QB Tramell Jones Jr. (undisclosed)
Questionable (2): WR Vernell Brown III (knee), WR Bailey Stockton (back)
Out (2): RB Duke Clark (foot), LB Jaden Robinson

Junior quarterback Aaron Philo took more first-team reps than Jones this week, sources tell Only Gators, though sophomore QB Tramell Jones Jr.’s injuries were never deemed as anything more than “bumps and bruises.” Philo will start despite Jones’ impressive performance in the upset over Texas last week.

Sophomore wide receiver Vernell Brown III was listed as probable all week until getting downgraded on Friday while continuing to battle a nagging knee injury that has become a source of frustration. Conversely, senior WR Bailey Stockton was listed as doubtful all week, but he’s pushing to play. Both will be game-time decisions with Florida hoping Brown will avoid missing a fourth straight game and spending a fifth consecutive week out of action.

Florida vs. Georgia prediction, analysis

Spread: Florida +12 | O/U: 56.5

This is a tough call. On one hand, Faulkner has historically dominated Smart’s defenses with Georgia Tech playing Georgia closer than expected in most meetings. On the other hand, as Sumrall stated this week, the Bulldogs are far more talented across their depth chart, and they are coming off not only the bye week but also a disastrous loss. Meanwhile, the Gators may be without their top offensive weapon again, and we have seen how limited Philo has been without Brown on the field — especially against a defensive front seven that should make life tough for junior running back Jadan Baugh.

While Georgia’s last two games have been decided by three points each, its three prior SEC wins have come by an average of 26.7 points. Among the potential results, if the game were played 100 times, a decisive Dawgs win would be the most frequent outcome. Should Florida get Brown on the field, and should Faulkner lead Philo to a scoring barrage, the Gators could certainly win. Even doing that would speak positively to Florida’s potential the rest of the season. The total is huge for a rivalry game, so under would naturally be the lean, especially since both teams could be slow out of the gates.

2026 record: 3-4 ATS, 4-2-1 O/U

Odds & ends

» Uniforms: Florida will wear orange helmets, white jerseys and white pants for the first and only time this season. UF is the de facto away team despite this being a neutral-site game.
