It was hardly a surprise when the Florida Gators were left off preseason lists, and at this point, there’s no telling where they may wind up in the college football rankings at season’s end — if they find a placement at all. With a couple of embarrassing defeats surrounding victories over top 10 teams, Florida appears capable of beating and losing to any team in the nation.
The Gators were a disaster in the first half this week and looked like a shell of themselves in a 27-8 loss to Georgia, the SEC’s top-ranked team. Florida only has one currently ranked opponent remaining through the end of the regular season, though, which means it might be able to make some strides over the duration of the campaign.
Despite taking the loss, Florida remained ranked in the AP Top 25 on Sunday, moving down eight spots to No. 25. The Gators were understandably removed from the Coaches Poll, receiving the 27th-most points in that voting process.
Entering Week 9, Florida is one of nine SEC teams in the AP Top 25, with four of those teams on the schedule, including one still to play. All three of the Gators’ losses have come against teams currently ranked in the AP Top 25.
