The Arkansas Activities Association (AAA) has introduced new seating and safety rules for high school basketball games: [1]
Student Section Location Rules
- Assigned Sides: Student sections must be located on their respective team’s side of the floor. [1]
- Allowed Positions: Student sections should be placed either:
- Behind their team’s bench
- Across the floor from their team’s bench
- At the end of the court on the same side as their team’s bench [1]
- Reason for Change: The rules were enacted by the AAA to improve the safety of players, coaches, referees, and fans following behavior issues with student sections across the state. [1]
Spectator and Playing Surface Rules
- Surface Access and Seating: Spectators are barred from the playing floor at all times, and seating where feet can touch the court or out-of-bounds area is prohibited.
- Host Responsibilities: Schools must use staff or physical barriers to keep fans away from the playing surface.
