Bumila struck out the first batter he faced, scoring an unearned run on a passed ball — the first time an opposing team had crossed the plate with him on the mound all season. However, the 6-foot-9 lefty pitched a perfect game the rest of the way.
In 27 innings of work this season, Bumila has struck out 69 while allowing just one hit and one unearned run.
At the plate, he is batting .286 (10-for-35) with 10 RBIs, seven runs, two doubles and two home runs.
The Texas outfielder hit 100 mph regularly with the radar gun this spring as he continues to draw flocks of MLB scouts to his starts.
Bumila also turned in a dominant basketball season as he earned MaxPreps Massachusetts Player of the Year honors after leading the Shamrocks to the Division 1 state championship.
The dominant post presence averaged 30.6 points and 15.2 rebounds per game for the season and averaged 40.8 points and 20.8 rebounds per contest in the state tournament.
He had 52 points and 20 rebounds in the state semifinals and 44 points and 29 rebounds in the state tournament win.
Two sports stars are among the nominees for MaxPreps’ National Athlete of the Year award, which will be announced next month.
