Florida’s passing attack could get a boost from WR trio vs. Georgia

Florida’s offense has been a mixed bag from a results standpoint in the 2026 season, but one thing is clear: the Gators have not benefited from a healthy wide receiver room.

Florida’s top three receivers, Vernell Brown III, Dallas Wilson and Eric Singleton Jr., have played just five snaps together this season, all in the Gators’ Week 1 win over FAU. Three of those five snaps were passing plays, resulting in a seven-yard gain to Brown III, a 19-yard pass to Wilson and a 49-yard touchdown to Brown III.

Singleton Jr. suffered a high ankle sprain just seven snaps into his senior campaign while blocking for Brown III’s touchdown, keeping him sidelined until the second half of Florida’s Week 4 game against Ole Miss. He’s played in every game since returning against the Rebels, but he clearly hasn’t been at his best.

“I give the kid credit. I mean, it’s tough to come back from a high-ankle sprain and really be the same. And you know, you see him still fighting through it every time he kind of gets tackled or rolled up, it does bother him,” offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner said on Singleton Jr.

The good news: Singleton is improving from a health standpoint and feels the best he has all season since the injury. He benefited from Florida’s Week 8 bye.

“There’s definitely glimpses. But he’s definitely, you know, improving and getting back to close to the Eric that I’m familiar with. The bye week really helped him,” Faulkner said. “There were several in that game last week where he’s down the field, where you see the speed, the elite trait that he has that not many people have. So that’s been really good. He’s always been extremely competitive.”

There’s no doubt Brown III has meant a lot to the Gators’ offense. In 3.5 games, he’s caught 17 passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns. Without him available, Florida’s offense has lacked the explosiveness it showed through the first four weeks of the season.

“We know what he means to this offense. He’s an explosive player. He can take, you know, five-yard catches and turn them into 15, 20-yard gains,” Faulkner said. “It’s a huge part of what we want to do, getting him the ball, getting him involved in the game. So hopefully he’s able to get out there, play some for us, and add a whole ‘nother element to what we’ve kind of maybe been missing.”

With Brown III back to “normal,” as head coach Jon Sumrall put it, Florida will seemingly have all three of its top receivers available at the same time for the first time all season. It comes at a crucial point in the schedule, as the Gators prepare to face a stout Georgia defense that has once again established itself among the best teams in the country.
